I LOVE babies…now don’t read this wrong, I love OTHER PEOPLE’S babies.  I will have my own one day but that’s not for today’s post.  My friends are starting to have babies and when it rains it pours.  My new interest in quilting is right on time and after giving away my first baby quilt I am convinced this is a hobby that will stay.  An old coworker and dear friend’s first baby (a little girl) was born while I was home and I stopped by to deliver their gift in person.  I am so glad I did!  This quilt was for them and they were so surprised when they opened their package, the response alone made the time commitment worth it.

I finished the binding for my first quilt.  The past two days I have spent most of my time on the couch catching up on American tv and hand sewing the binding.  My mom managed to catch me in the act.  This quilt is going to be my grandma’s christmaspresent.  Since I started quilting because of my great grandma’s influence in my life and the fact that no one has taken up quilting since she passed away, I thought it only fitting to give my first quilt to my grandma.  I will have to make her another one because I can already tell the difference in skill level between this one and the two I have completed since.

I hand wrote the label…based on reading numerous quilters blogs it seemed the preference was to hand write because it is more personal.  This is not my preference.  After spending so much time on my quilts I prefer a more polished finish.  I ordered custom labels from Sweetwater and they should arrive any day.  I’ll let you know what I think when they get here!
